The developer of the Opera browser decided to add the functionality of a cryptocurrency wallet to the desktop version of its software, after as integrated it into a mobile client, writes Bitcoin.com. The company attributes this to “an extremely positive response from the cryptocurrency community and users to the crypto wallet in Opera for Android.”.

The Norwegian company said that integrating the wallet into the desktop version of the browser aims to accomplish two things. First, users no longer have to install specialized extensions to work with cryptocurrencies. It will be enough for them to link the browser to the mobile wallet with help QR code. Besides, the phone can be used for storing private keys and managing your wallet. Users of the desktop version of the wallet will just have to put their finger on the phone to sign a transaction and do not have to enter long passwords.
“By adding a cryptocurrency wallet directly to the browser, we eliminate the need for complex extensions or standalone applications,” said Charles Hamel, product development manager for Opera Crypto. “Launching a PC browser for cryptocurrencies marks Opera’s second step towards mass adoption of cryptocurrencies and Web 3.0.”.
The mobile version of Opera’s cryptocurrency wallet was launched in closed beta in July. It supports Ethereum, ERC-20 tokens and ERC-721 collectibles. In the future, developers are planning expand the list supported cryptocurrencies.
The decision to add a cryptocurrency wallet to the desktop version of the browser is part of a larger program of the company to expand the built-in functionality of its software.
